Help in Hostomel

Despite the destruction of its logistics warehouse, the “Food for Ukraine” foundation continues to provide aid to Ukrainians affected by the war. This time, food parcels were distributed in Hostomel—a town that endured particularly brutal attacks by the Russian military at the onset of the war.
On the faces of the children and parents gathered in Hostomel, one can see both the joy of receiving help and a persistent sense of anxiety. Even the distribution of food has to be organized differently here; due to the threat of missile and drone attacks, people cannot gather all at once. Families arrive individually or in small groups, and the food parcels are handed out gradually throughout the day to prevent large crowds from forming in one place—a necessary precaution, given that 150 parcels need to be distributed.
It is difficult to grasp that people must consider the danger of missile strikes even when simply coming to collect food. Children here have already learned to recognize air-raid sirens, while parents keep a constant, wary eye on the sky. Yet, they still come—smiling and expressing their gratitude. The children’s faces light up when they spot Haribo candies, Gaidelis cookies, or corn-based snacks in their food parcels. Such encounters serve as a poignant reminder of why we cannot stop our efforts to help.
We extend our gratitude to the people, businesses, and partners in Lithuania whose support enables us to continue this mission, even in the wake of such painful losses. UAB “Vilandra” for the Haribo gummies, AB “Kauno Grūdai” for the delicious soups, and AB “Maxima” for their ongoing support—as well as to other individuals who never forget to donate each month—I send a hug from the Ukrainian women.
